Top 8 clinical procedures and at-home professional-grade treatments for facial wrinkles and fine lines

Following are some of the most popular treatments for wrinkles and fine lines, inevitably associated with aging skin that has started to lose volume and elasticity, that we have put together after doing extensive research and receiving customer feedback. The list does not include over the counter or prescription-requiring topical gels, moisturizers and other serums such as AHAs, Retinoids or Anti-Oxidants, among various others, and simply focuses on more serious forms of interventions that arguably deliver more strong, quicker and noticeable drastic

1. Radiofrequency-based therapy
    • Invariably the most talked about treatment for reversing wrinkles, and doing with significant results but at a fraction of the cost (or discomfort often associated with various other anti-aging treatment), Radio Frequency based anti-aging treatment is very rapidly gaining traction, despite having been an in-clinic option since the early 2000s. This is partly due to the technological advancements over the years that have allowed for miniaturization of larger commercial level expensive professional clinical RF equipment being produced at a fraction of the cost and delivering even more powerful results in at-home anti-aging handsets & devices such as the EvenSkyn Lumo.
    2. Laser skin rejuvenation
      • Lasers having found their use in helping address other skin concerns such as the Fractional CO2 laser which is often used to treat acne scars, the Pulsed Dye laser that is popular among practitioners for treating broken blood vessels, the Fraxel laser has been identified as the best-known laser for facelifts and skin rejuvenation.
      3. Acid peels
        • A host of chemical peel options in-clinic, as well as for at-home use, exist to address anti-aging skin concerns. These chemicals invariably tend to be acid-based and are typically categories by their larger chemical groupings such as Alpha Hydroxy peels, Beta Hydroxy peels, hybrid peels containing a mix of various acid blends, TCA peels, among others. Their concentrations can range from single digit numbers to significantly higher double digit percentages of the acids contained therein, and as such, we at EvenSkyn high recommend that if considering this route that you consult a Board Certified dermatologist before option for a certain type of acid-based chemical peel treatment to address you aging concerns.
        4. Fillers & Injections
          • Without question the most popular among them being BOTOX®, most fillers and injections although still minimally invasive, are still considered non-surgical cosmetic treatments. They are an excellent and quick way to quickly add volume to drooping and sagging skin, especially in conditions such as Crow’s Feet. Although fast, minimally invasive and generally economical, the results are temporary and typically do not last more than 3 to 6 months, at which point a follow-up session at a cosmetic clinic would be needed again.
          5. Photorejuvenation (Photodynamic rejuvenation/PDT)
            • PDT or photodynamic therapy is the application of light applied to the skin at specific wavelengths for a given duration. A range of diverse light sources are used for PDT, including diodes, lasers and intense pulsed light. Different wavelengths have been shown to have differing benefits for the skin. Phototherapy has proven effective for delivery results to treat the roughness of the skins, lentigines, as well as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. At-home treatment include devices such as LED facemasks and phototherapy incorporating device, but where all a device offers is phototherapy, often prolonged period of exposure over an extended period of time are required before results can be observed (often to do with the fact that at-home LED masks, for example, do not have the requisite power to deliver drastic results in a short exposure window).
            6. Plastic Surgery
              • Little needs to be said about arguably the best known professional treatment for lessening the appearance of signs of aging. Plastic surgery procedures, thus, have only gotten more popular over the year, despite an increasing trend in the larger populace to opt for more natural venues for slowing or reversing signs of aging. Plastic surgery procedures can range from minimally-invasive face and brow lifts to more serious procedures such as facial implants.
              7. Ultrasound therapy
                • The now-less-popular option of Ultrasound therapy is nevertheless still around as viable as it has been in the past. The technology relies on the familiar ultrasound imaging used in medical settings, but instead of diagnostic or imaging purposes is instead adapted to lift skin and promote collagen production. The ultrasound device is adapted to focus energy where stimulation targets exist in the deep tissue layers. Typically the depth of penetration is around 5mm, and other than RF devices, many other non-invasive treatments such as lasers rarely go as deep. However, ultrasound therapy remains elusive to end-users since the adoption of the technology has been weak at best across cosmetic offices and venues.
                8. Dermabrasion/Microdermabrasion
                  • Most folk interested in skin care are no strangers to the terms dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. The processes simply rely on the removal of dead skin, dirt and other unwanted skin build-up through exfoliation. The way the anti-aging microdermabrasion processes work are through not just remove the dead skin, thus making room for new skin to rise to the surface, but also through increased blood circulation to the treated areas by device such as the upcoming EvenSkyn Nova, a vacuum suction device which has a particular head that can be used for this particular task. However, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion remain moderate and simplistic anti-aging treatments as they do not deliver nearly the results one can expect from fillers, Radio Frequency or lasers. Microdermabrasion is thus, more aptly understood as suitable for maintaining healthy skin, and that too for people that are in the very early stages of showing signs of aging. The anti-aging results are directly a result of active removal of excess build-up and increased blood flow, and not from any other active technologies at play that would otherwise be boosting collagen production.
