EASY AS 1, 2, 3.
Using the Pulsar is super-easy as long as you familiarize yourself with the basics. The center power button doubles as a button to turn on/off the device but also helps adjust the intensity level. Long-pressing the center power button turns on the device. By default the device starts in Hair Removal (HR) mode as indicated at the top-left of the LCD screen. You may then press the black button right below the LCD panel and it will switch from Manual to Auto mode. The Auto mode is ideal for larger areas like legs or abdomen where larger area needs to be covered. Glide the Pulsar across your skin very slowly and follow a linear pattern (like a grid). Once the Pulsar flashes, the area facing the treatment window should be considered treated and you should move on to the adjacent untreated skin area right next to it until all desired areas have been flashed once.
WIDE RANGE OF TREATABLE SKIN TYPE
The Pulsar works on every single skin type, with the exception of skin types either lacking melanin (albinism) or where there the skin tone is dark brown or black (since melanin-rich skin cells also absorb the light energy and becomes very hot. This causes pain, blisters, and even burns). It is thus, not advisable for those with darker skin types to use at-home hair removal IPL devices such as the Pulsar. However, if one is unsure, testing an area with the lowest intensity level (1) that transfers the lowest amount of energy to the hair follice can be advisable where a dermatologist or similar medical professional has been consulted.
FEW EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE
The Pulsar is a Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device, and as such, it releases precise, controlled pulses of filtered light at specific wavelengths which are absorbed by the melanin in the hair root follicles. White, grey, very light blonde or red hair often do not sufficiently contain the melanin required to get rid of them in their roots. The Pulsar does, however, work for the vast majority (~99%) of other hair colors. Even for very blonde individuals, but nevertheless have hair that have some pigment, the Pulsar often can be used but in such borderline cases, it is recommended that they first consult a dermatologist or other certifical medical professional.
TIMELINE FOR RESULTS
Hair thinning and slower growth of hair can be seen after just 3 weeks of use (once a week treatments). However, to be completely hair-free, it may take up to 6 month in individuals using the lowest energy settings (1 through 3). For those able to use the highest settings on the device, completely hair-free skin can be achieved in as little as 10 weeks, however, for the vast majority the range tends to be 12 to 16 weeks (3 to 4 months of once-a-week usage).
