The At-Home Microneedling Depth Register: What Fifteen Pens, Rollers and Stamps Publish About Their Needles, and What None of Them Publish
Every at-home microneedling product quotes a needle length. None of them, ours included, publishes how deep that needle actually delivers anything. This register records, for fifteen products sold for home use, the depth figure each brand publishes, whether it is adjustable, how the head or cartridge is meant to be handled, whether a sterilisation method is named, how the serum reaches the skin, and the regulatory wording on the page. Every cell carries the date it was read.
How to read this register
Three kinds of entry appear. A stated fact is quoted or summarised with the date it was read. "Not published" means we looked on that date and the information was absent from the pages read. "Not recorded in our reads" means the gap is ours: we have not yet checked that cell, and it is not scored against anyone. Where a figure has changed between reads, both values are kept, because the change itself is information.
Four product types appear. A pen is a motorised handpiece with a cartridge of needles that oscillate vertically. A roller is a drum of fixed needles rolled across the skin. A stamp is a flat head of fixed needles pressed straight down. A micro-infusion stamp is a stamp whose needle head connects to a serum reservoir, so the serum travels through the channels as they are made. EvenSkyn makes one product in the last group and none in the other three.

Why "delivered depth" is empty in every row
A needle length is a property of the needle. A delivery depth is a property of what happens in skin: how far a channel opens, how long it stays open, and how much of a serum, if any, travels down it before it closes. Channels are smaller than the needles that make them, and they begin closing the moment the needle withdraws. That is why a 0.5 mm needle does not mean actives arrive 0.5 mm down, and why a brand quoting a precise delivery depth in microns is quoting a number nobody has measured on their product.
We record "Not published" in our own row for the same reason we record it in everyone else's. The honest statement of what a fixed 0.5 mm needle head buys you is narrower than a delivery figure: it caps how far the needle itself can go, however hard the stamp is pressed. That is a safety property, not a delivery measurement, and the register keeps the two apart.
Observations the register surfaces
- Zero of fifteen publish a delivered depth. Every row, including ours, reads "Not published". The industry's shared number is needle length, and needle length is not the thing a buyer is trying to learn.
- Three of fifteen name a sterilisation method. Dr. Pen names ethylene oxide gas and UV light for its pen cartridges, Qure names ethylene oxide, and EvenSkyn names gamma. The other twelve use the words sterile, sterilized or sanitize without saying how, or say nothing.
- The "professional use only" line sits on the most-searched home pen. Dr. Pen's own US product page for the M8S states "For professional use only" twice, and its disclaimer says microneedling pens are intended for people aged 22 and older "in accordance with FDA authorisation". The same page ships the pen with nano cartridges only and sells needle cartridges separately. None of that is on the retailer pages that quote the 0.25 to 2.5 mm range.
- Depth control is inverted between the categories. The pen is the only product whose depth the user dials, and it reaches 2.5 mm by a retailer's account. The stamps and micro-infusion stamps fix depth at 0.25 or 0.5 mm, and one stamp brand sells a 1.0 mm head for home use. The rollers sit at 0.2 to 0.3 mm and rely on pressure, which no roller page quantifies.
- Reuse is the norm outside micro-infusion. The rollers are reused, for a month to three months per head where an interval is given; the Banish stamp head is reused for 4 to 8 sessions; only the pen cartridges and several of the micro-infusion heads are described as single-use.
- Published depth figures move. Glov's main page stated 0.25 mm on 2 September 2026 where two pages had stated 0.5 mm in July; Seranova's page carried 0.5 mm in July and no figure in September, while an Amazon listing title says 0.05 mm. Depth is the most safety-relevant number in this category, which is why the register keeps the history.
- Our own weakest cell is price transparency across sessions. We publish a kit price and a per-session arithmetic on the product page, but we do not publish a delivered dose or a measured channel, and neither does anyone else. The day one of us measures it, this register gets a new column.
Cadence and corrections
The register is re-read monthly alongside the Micro-Infusion Disclosure Ledger. Any cell that changes gets the new value and the new date, and where the change is material the old value is kept alongside. A brand that believes a cell misstates its published material can write to us through the contact page with a link to the page in question; we will re-read it and update the cell against the new date.
