Does Radiofrequency Therapy Work to Tighten Body Skin?

If you’ve heard of radiofrequency (RF) therapy, you know that it’s becoming one of the go-to treatments for wrinkles, sagging, and aging skin. That’s because it’s a non-surgical skin-tightening treatment that is a safe alternative to more invasive procedures like botox and dermal fillers.

But like Botox and fillers, most people talk about RF therapy concerning facial skin - but what about the body? Many men and women struggle with loose and sagging skin in many areas, so it’s a valid question to ask. Let’s look at how RF therapy can be used to tighten body skin.

What Is Radiofrequency Skin-Tightening?

First, let’s establish the basics of radiofrequency therapy. RF therapy involves the use of radio waves to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin and subcutaneous layers. By applying heat generated from these radio waves, collagen growth in these areas becomes highly stimulated.

Over time the affected tissue will be remodeled, as the collagen works its magic. Over the following weeks and between each radiofrequency session you will notice your skin slowly repairing itself, becoming thicker, smoother, and tighter.

This is effectively why radiofrequency technology has become such a popular cosmetic treatment in recent years. Various studies have shown that the treatment results in significant improvements in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Tightening skin
  • Improving complexion and skin tone
  • Reducing mild to moderate sun damage
  • Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Face contouring
  • Facial slimming

But Does It Work On Your Body?

The good news is that yes, though it’s most often used on facial skin, RF therapy can be used to tighten the skin of your body too. It can be used to tighten loose and sagging skin, smooth and heal stretch marks, and help to reduce body fat in some areas.

In a 2017 study, 25 people underwent radiofrequency treatments spanning between 5 and 8 sessions. Incredibly, when results were gathered 24 of these participants reported seeing improved body shape, and felt positive about RF therapy as a treatment for body contouring.

Body contouring and weight loss through RF therapy are possible because targeted heat can cause fat tissue to move into apoptosis, or “programmed cell death.” This leads the surrounding cells to absorb the fat cells back into the body.

RF therapy can be used on many areas of the body, including the neck, abdomen, arms, thighs, knees, and buttocks. Results for body contouring and fat reduction are most effective on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. Skin tightening for the neck, arms, and knees is a common treatment.

As you can see, this revolutionary treatment is not exclusive to skin tightening for face slimming. Radiofrequency therapy is a versatile cosmetic technology that is definitely worth trying if you have some extra fat that is hard to lose or stretch marks and wrinkles that won’t budge.
